Michał Szachniewicz

I am a Benjamin Pierce Fellow at Harvard University. During the academic year 2025–2026, I will be staying at the Institute for Advanced Study. I received my PhD from the University of Oxford, where I was supervised by Ehud Hrushovski. Previously, I was a Master’s student at the University of Warsaw, supervised by Joachim Jelisiejew, and a Bachelor’s student at the University of Wrocław, under the supervision of Krzysztof Krupiński.
The main objects of my studies are globally valued fields. These are fields equipped with an extra data called height functions. Such often arise naturally from Arakelov intersection thoery, or an adelic curve structure on a field. One can also induce height functions from certain measures on Berkovich analytifications over integers.
For a nice overview of the theory of globally valued fields, see the Bourbaki Seminar talk given by Antoine Chambert-Loir.
